Augusto Melo, president of the São Paulo team Corinthians, recently made a proposal to bring Marcelo Paz, CEO of the Fortaleza team, from Ceará, which must be rejected, according to an investigation carried out by the GE portal.

Marcelo Peace and success

The search for Augusto Melo, by Marcelo Paz, may have deeply complicated reasons within Corinthians, but the recent retrospect of the CEO and former president of Fortaleza, who was contacted with the proposal to take on the same position at “Timão”, has a great weight.

Paz, who until recently was the president of the Ceará team, abdicated his position to become the CEO of SAF do “Leão”. He has been part of the team's management since 2017 and, since then, the team has been collecting titles and moments of overcoming.

With Marcelo Paz managing the team, Fortaleza left Series C in 2017, won Series B in 2018, in addition to reaching the South American Championship and qualifying for the Conmebol Libertadores twice.

Not counting the three of the Copa Nordeste (2019, 2022 and, plus this year's edition, 2024), in addition to the penta of Ceará (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023). A campaign that, without a doubt, can be considered victorious and impressive.

Crisis at Corinthians

Despite the proposal made to Fortaleza's CEO, according to information from portal E, Marcelo Paz must refuse the invitation to be part of the “Timão” management team.

According to this investigation, Paz will decline the invitation for three very different reasons: Paz would not like to leave the club in the middle of the season, the Tricolor Cearense project really pleases him and, mainly, the identification that he has with the fans of ” Lion”.

However, this refusal only worsens the institutional crisis that Corinthians has been going through since Augusto Melo took over at the end of last year.

Part of the board of directors left during the year, however, only last week two high-ranking names on the team asked to leave: Rozallah Santoro, financial director, and Fernando Alba, assistant director of football.

Before them, football director Rubens Gomes, legal director Yun Ki Lee and marketing superintendent Sérgio Moura had also left the club.

Even so, Melo, who in a recent interview was emphatic about a careful search for a CEO, is in no rush to fill the position with someone who is not compatible with her.
