Chelsea are beaten at home and their winning streak reaches eight games

Chelsea’s drama this season continues. This Wednesday, the Blues were defeated by Brentford in the middle of Stanford Bridge by the score of 2 to 0 and with that, the chances of playing in some European competition next season are decreasing. Since taking over the technical command of the team, Lampard has yet to win a single victory.

In today’s match, Chelsea had more offensive volume, but did not create clear goal chances. In the first half, the main chances for the Blues came from Thiago Silva and Enzo Fernandez. Brentford, on the other hand, showed more effectiveness. In their first finalization, the visiting team opened the scoring. Jensen lifted the corner kick from the left, the ball deflected off Azpilicueta, who sent it into his own goal, in the 37th minute.

In the second half, history repeated itself. Chelsea tried in every way to find a goal opportunity, but failed due to their technical limitation. In the main chance for the Blues, Thiago Silva got up in the area, Sterling headed it into the small area and Aubameyang headed it out. Thiago Silva would also have his chance to score with a header, but he sent it out. The penalty came in the 78th minute. In a counterattack, Mbeumo was launched in the defense field and advanced alone to the area. The Cameroonian adjusted to his left leg and kicked hard, in the left corner of Kepa, expanding the score for Brentford.

This was the fifth defeat in a row for Chelsea considering the Premier League and the European Champions League. Overall, the London club has not won a game since March 11, when they beat Leicester 3-1. Since then, they have eight games, with two draws and six defeats. Frank Lampard took over the club’s technical command in the match against Wolverhampton on April 8 and since that match, Chelsea have accumulated five straight defeats. In the Premier League, Chelsea occupies the 11th position in the table, with 39 points, 20 points less than the 4th placed Manchester United.

With the three points won this Wednesday, Brentford is in 9th place in the table, with 47 points. With permanence in the Premier League guaranteed, the Bees dream of qualifying for European competition.

Chelsea are back on the field in the English league next Tuesday, against Arsenal away from home, at 4 pm (Brasília time). Brentford face Nottingham Forest next Saturday at 11 am.
