Santos extends Lucas Lima’s contract until April 2025

In a decision announced on its official website this Monday morning (1), Santos Futebol Clube extended the contract of midfielder Lucas Lima. The new agreement, which is valid for two more years, is valid until April 2025, the year in which the player will turn 35.

Initially, the player’s bond with Santos would end after the end of the Paulista Championship. However, the good performances and the positive impact of the midfielder on the field and in the group motivated Peixe to extend the contract.

Santos and Lucas Lima started negotiations for the player’s return in January and the agreement took place on the eve of the duel against Palmeiras, for Paulistão. However, part of the Santos fans protested against the signing and some fans even invaded the CT Rei Pelé, causing Santos to choose to postpone the confirmation.

After the initial negative repercussions, the club announced the arrival of the midfielder in the first week of February. The signed contract was for productivity, with a salary of around R$100,000, with a clause that would extend the bond if the player played for at least 45 minutes in 60% of Santos’ matches in the Paulista Championship.

Since then, Lucas Lima has been a key player in the group and in the functioning of the team, which is going through a moment of rebuilding its squad. During the period, the number 23 was responsible for six direct participations in goals in the 13 games he played. In addition to having scored once, Lucas scored five assists, becoming the team’s goal passing leader this season.

The extension of the contract represents the guarantee of the extension of Lucas Lima’s second spell at Peixe. In the first, the midfielder defended the club’s colors between 2014 and 2017, scoring 19 goals in 202 games and winning the São Paulo championship for the second time in 2015 and 2016.
