Since the 22nd of this month, individuals diagnosed with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) have gained the right to be considered priority in the HPV vaccination schedule, according to the Ministry of Health. The procedure to receive the vaccine requires the presentation of a medical prescription, ensuring that beneficiaries are identified and appropriately guided.

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis represents a rare disease characterized by the growth of benign tumors in the airways, which can cause breathing difficulties and other significant symptoms. It is a disease notorious for the formation of warts, predominantly on the larynx.

The treatment of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) predominantly involves surgical procedures to remove warts located on the vocal cords and larynx. These interventions, crucial to mitigating symptoms and preventing disease progression, must be carried out as often as necessary.

Repeated surgical interventions, although they are the best therapeutic option available to combat the proliferation of lesions, bring with them considerable challenges. One of them is the economic aspect, as the cost of treatment can become expensive for some patients. According to information from the Health department, the effectiveness of surgical treatment for RRP, despite being the main line of treatment, is not free from limitations, as it does not eliminate the risk of wart recurrences.

Single dose

The Ministry of Health incorporated a new vaccination strategy against HPV, adopting a single dose scheme replacing the previous two-application model. This change doubles the immunization capacity with available stocks, aiming to intensify protection against cervical cancer and other complications linked to viruses.
