Collagen may be the protein your body needs

Responsible for helping the structure, elasticity and firmness of the skin, the collagen can be a great ally. Not only is it responsible for keeping the skin firm, but it is also very important for the hair, nails, muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints of the body. Collagen soma occurs intracellularly, by different cell types, essentially by chondroblasts, fibroblasts and osteoblasts, being the specialized cells of cartilaginous, connective and bone tissue.

This fibrous protein, typically found in animals, plays an important role in the strength, structure, fibers and elasticity of a number of tissues in our body. There are 28 types of collagen discerned by their composition, morphology, origin and functions.

Approximately 70% of all skin proteins are mixed with collagen, in addition to being present in our body, muscles and tendons, being responsible for much of the firmness, elasticity and hydration of the dermis. Collagen is a protein, a macronutrient, and there are different types and classifications.

Proteins are made up of chains of amino acids, such as glycine, proline, hydroxylysine, hydroxyproline, lysine and the alanine, which have a parallel structure. The collagen class represents approximately 35% of the total proteins spread throughout the body, and such proteins are produced by collagen type I, 85% and type III, 15%, keeping the skin hydrated, elastic and helps with resistance.

Glycation ends the skin’s collagen, this happens when sugar molecules, referring to excessive intake of sugar and fat, such as pasta and bread, tend to mix with proteins, causing a chemical reaction that kills collagen fibers and elastin. Taking collagen and consuming sugar does not help, it only worsens the appearance of the skin and health.

The collagen that we take in supplemental form is not fully absorbed, as it goes through a series of internal processes and not all of the collagen goes to the target tissue. The substance is distributed as per the requirement of the body. One of the experts’ tips is that it should only be taken from the age of 19, and at age 30 its consumption is recommended, as it is at this age that the skin begins to need collagen.
