In his re-debut as coach of Corinthians, Vanderlei Luxemburgo promoted changes in the team that had been playing in the hands of Danilo, Cuca and Fernando Lázaro. Maycon and Fausto Vera formed the defensive midfielder duo that gave breadth to the attack but ended up leaving gaps that were decisive for the match’s score. At 22 minutes, Lautaro Díaz opened the scoring for Del Valle with a great goal. However, Corinthiana’s reaction did not take long and at 35 minutes it was Timão’s turn to score after Adson gave a beautiful assist, triggering top scorer Róger Guedes to score another beautiful goal and tie the match. Still in the first stage, Yuri Alberto scored the turnaround goal, which ended up being invalidated after impeding the bid.

Suffering strikes Corinthians again at the beginning of the second stage

After the break, the Corinthians team came back trying to keep control of the match and keeping the ball in search of a good attacking move. However, in the seventh minute, Lautaro Díaz punished again and silenced Neo Química Arena for a moment. Once again on the scoreboard, Timão tried to reorganize itself, but didn’t have enough momentum to break through the block made by Del Valle. The big chance of the second stage came at the end of the match, when Róger Guedes tried to score with a header but ended up stopping in Ramírez’s defense.

After the defeat to Del Valle, the Corinthiana fans did not give up booing the team and the Corinthians board. It even left for president Duílio Monteiro Alves, who has been pivotal in the crisis at Timão. The famous “I miss you when Corinthians played with desire” was one of the most sung screams by the fans in Itaquera.

Table and Agenda

With the third round complete in Group E of the Copa Libertadores, Corinthians are in third place in the group, with only three points conquered in nine possible, seeing Del Valle (6) and Argentino Jrs. (7) in front of you. Corinthians’ mission is even more complicated when one sees that the team has already played two of the three possible games at the Neo Química Arena and is now playing two games away from home to try to reverse the situation and seek classification in the group.

Now, Corinthians turns its strength to the Brazilian Championship. The next duel for Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team is against Fortaleza, currently second in the competition. Timão is also looking for the turnaround in the Brazilian Championship, where it is in the relegation zone. The match will take place at Neo Química Arena, next Monday (8), at 8 pm (Brasília time).
