Cruzeiro had to travel to Valledupar, in Colombia, to achieve its first victory in the Copa Sudamericana 2024. After four rounds, the 3-0 victory over Alianza meant that Raposa reached six points and gained survival in the fight for the direct place in the round of 16 of the tournament.

The team from Minas Gerais momentarily reached second place in group B with six points. One less than the leader Universidad Católica, from Ecuador, who will still play in the round against Unión La Calera (four points) at home, on Thursday (9). Cruzeiro needs a stumble from the Ecuadorians to return to depending solely on themselves.

Possible scenarios

In case of a draw or defeat for Católica, Cruzeiro will need to win the two remaining games, at Mineirão, precisely against their main opponents to guarantee leadership in the last two rounds.

Cruzeiro is at risk of returning to third place in the group after the end of the fourth round. To remain in second place, the club needs La Calera to lose or draw. This way, they will avoid being overtaken by the Chileans, who would reach four or five points, in case of defeat or draw, respectively.

Next opponents

After the relief in the continental competition, the celestial club returns to focus its efforts on the Brazilian Championship. In tenth place (with one game in hand), Cruzeiro takes the field against Atlético Goianiense, next Sunday (12), at 4 pm (Brasília time), away from home.

This will be the last clash before the decisive sequence in front of their fans. After the clash, the club will have three consecutive home games against Unión La Calera, Cuiabá and Universidad Católica.
