Dona Beja: Grazi Massafera appears characterized and gives details of the soap opera

Two years after leaving Globo, Thanks Massafera will make his first telenovela outside the network. The actress signed a contract with HBO Max this Tuesday, July 11, and will play the protagonist in the retelling of Dona Beja, a hit from the 1980s.

“I feel very happy and honored to be part of this character who is real, who inspired a book, a soap opera, which is part of the Brazilian imagination and will now have such a special retelling. HBO and I were already flirting from afar, since the possibility of Dona Beja existing began to be talked about”, celebrated Grazi.

According to the actress, the production is in the characterization phase and she is preparing to give life to Ana Jacinta, who loses her virginity in a kidnapping and is detonated by the society of Minas Gerais in the 19th century. Then, the character becomes Dona Beja, a courtesan who lives a journey of empowerment in the midst of patriarchal society and does not take offense from her ex-fiance Antônio and other men in the plot.

“Dona Beja” is inspired by the novels “A Vida Em Flor de Dona Beja”, by Agripa Vasconcelos, and “Dona Beja: A Feiticeira do Araxá”, by Thomas Othon Leonardos. Despite being an old soap opera, HBO Max intends to modernize it, bringing current themes for discussion in the work.

There will be two authors in charge of the work, Antonio Bandeira It is Daniel Berlinsky. The Portuguese Bandeira won the International Emmy for Best Novel in 2010, while the Brazilian Berlinsky is known for his work on Globo alongside Walcyr Carrascosuch as “Morde e Assopra” (2011), “Amor à Vida” (2013) and “Êta Mundo Bom” (2016).

After playing a couple in the soap opera “Bom Sucesso”, in 2019, David Junior and Grazi Massafera should repeat their partnership. The actor is quoted to be Antônio, the romantic partner of the beautiful girl in the remake of “Dona Beja”. The original version, written by Wilson Aguiar Filho and directed by Herval Rossanonarrates the trajectory of Ana Jacinta, who, after becoming disappointed with Antônio, decides to open a refined brothel and becomes a famous courtesan, scandalizing the conservative society of Minas Gerais.
