Dortmund ensure they can keep the much-courted Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland is a scoring machine , and inevitably, that interests almost all the big European clubs. However, whether or not he plays the next Champions League , Dortmund has the backs strong enough to keep his phenomenon, assures Borussia boss Hans-Joachim Watzke in an interview broadcast Tuesday by DAZN.
“No matter what happens this season and next, we don’t need to ask for credit, sell players urgently or fire people,” said Watzke, in this interview published a few hours before the quarter-final go from the Champions League on the lawn of Manchester City, while his club has suffered a lot financially from the Covid-19 crisis.
Bad start in the league
“We are not under pressure, which is a good starting point in the current situation,” he adds, to react to alarmist remarks by defender Mats Hummels after the defeat on Saturday against Frankfurt (1-2) who relegated the Ruhr club to 7 points from a qualifying place for the next Champions League, seven days to go.
Listed Borussia have reported losses of 26.3 million euros for the first six months of the current season and their turnover during the same period has fallen from 236.6 million to 177.4 million .
Watzke, who is aware that the great maneuvers have started in Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester City to attract the 20-year-old prodigy, insisted on procrastinating: “We will talk about it calmly with Erling, with his father and with his agent [Mino Raiola]. We want him to stay with us out of conviction ”.
The prodigy striker is under contract with the BVB until 2024 and does not have an exit clause until 2022. But it is difficult to imagine that a striker who has been stacking European records for two seasons agrees to pass a whole year without playing the Champions League.
