Federal Police investigate transfer of R$800,000 from Bolsonaro to the United States

In December 2022, the then president of the republic, already defeated at the polls, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), carried out a bank transfer of R$800,000 to the United States of America. According to information obtained through the Federal Police (PF) investigation, the transaction was carried out so that Bolsonaro could remain abroad, where he would live while awaiting the next chapters of the coup attempt in Brazil. , and, if necessary, escape from a possible investigation for conspiracy and an attack on the democratic rule of law.

Investigation

The PF, through information from a document published by the magazine Looklast Wednesday (14), found that in addition to Bolsonaro, others under investigation also transferred their resources abroad, as if they expected the coup d'état to happen and were fully aware of the illicit acts that had taken place. committed.

“Some people under investigation escaped from the country, withdrawing practically all of their resources invested in national financial institutions, transferring them to the USA, to protect themselves from possible criminal prosecution initiated to investigate the illicit acts.â€says the document.

The breach of banking secrecy indicates that the former president carried out the exchange transaction on December 27, 2022, in the amount of R$800,000.03 for a bank in the United States, where he has an account .

“It is evident that the then president Jair Bolsonaro, at the end of his term, transferred all his assets and financial resources, illicit and legal, to the United States, with the purpose of ensuring his permanence abroad, possibly awaiting the outcome of the attempted coup d'état that was in progressâ€states the PF document.

The Federal Police also notes that, in this amount transferred abroad, the “misappropriation of high-value assets delivered by foreign authoritiesâ€which is why it mentions financial resources “lawful and illicitâ€. The suspicion arises due to the attempted illegal entry of jewelry received by Bolsonaro after a trip to Saudi Arabia.

Bolsonaro tries to explain the reason for the transfer

In conversation with the journalist, Roseann Kennedy, from the State of São Paulo, Bolsonaro explained that the reason for transferring his resources would be the “uncertainty in the economic scenario of the Lula government†.

“I sent the money believing in the complete collapse of savings in Brazil,†said the former president. In the telephone conversation with the journalist, he stated that he was worried about the financial instability of the elected president, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), and according to him, “a lot of people sent money abroad after the elections†.
