Fluminense decides not to buy Gabriel Pirani and player can go to the United States
Fluminense reported last Saturday (15) that it will not exercise the option to buy the player Gabriel Pirani, who is on loan from Santos. The 21-year-old player was recently sought out by an American club. When asked by the Rio de Janeiro team about his wishes, Pirani informed that he wants to leave Brazil. Now it depends only on the negotiation between Santos and the US team.
Gabriel Pirani has been at Fluminense since February this year, after arriving on loan from Santos. The young player has a total of 24 matches for the tricolor and scored two goals. The first happened in the second match, when he scored against Flamengo in the Guanabara Cup final and gave the title to Fluminense. The second goal happened for the Brazilian Championship in June, in a match against Bahia, in which the goal was decisive for the victory of the team from Rio de Janeiro.

By not exercising the purchase option, the club from Rio releases Santos to negotiate the sale of the player to the United States. However, Fluminense is entitled to a percentage of the sale because of the “showcase” rights, as the player drew attention while still playing for the Rio de Janeiro club. Through social networks, the team informed about the possible departure of the player and thanked him for his time in Rio de Janeiro:
“Fluminense Football Club informs that it will release Gabriel Pirani so that he can be negotiated by Santos, to whom the player belongs (…) We thank the athlete for the delivery with our Armor and we wish him success in his career.”
Despite not having confirmation on which team is involved in the negotiations, the American press is reporting that the club interested in the player is DC United, a club from Washington. The team is currently in ninth place in the MLS East Conference and is fighting for a place in the competition’s playoffs.
Adding his performance for Santos and the loans to Fluminense and also to Cuiabá, in 2022, Gabriel Pirani made 111 appearances in professional football, where he scored eight goals and provided five assists.
