“I wish love could save you”: Robert de Niro in mourning, his grandson Leandro (20) is dead

A true living legend of Hollywood cinema, Robert de Niro recently became a father for the seventh time in his life at the age of 79. Unfortunately for him, the happiness provided by the birth of this new baby has just been swept away by terrible news.

The actor’s grandson, baptized Leandro, died at the age of just 20. It was his mother, Drena de Niro, who announced the terrible news on his accountinstagram Monday July 3, 2023. The adopted daughter of Robert de Niro has published a photo of her late child accompanied by a long text, in order to pay tribute to him. “My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description since the moment I felt you in my womb. You have been my joy, my heart and everything that has always been pure and real in my life. I would like to be with you right now. I would like to be with you“, she wrote.

“I don’t know how to live without you but I will try to carry on and spread the love and the light that you made me feel so much by becoming your mom. You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish love alone could save you. I’m so sorry baby, I’m so sorry. Rest in peace and eternal heaven my darling boy“, also added Leandro’s mother. For the record, Drena de Niro was adopted by Robert de Niro after the actor married his mother Diahnne Abbott in 1976. She therefore took his last name in stride. The actor’s adopted daughter currently lives in New York, and divides her time between “The Big Apple”, Los Angeles and Italy.

Now 51, Drena de Niro embarked on an artistic journey when she left school. She began a career as a model, before converting to a DJ. She then returned to the fashion world by working as a consultant. Eventually, Drena de Niro decided to follow in her adoptive father’s footsteps, turning to acting. She landed her first role in the movie titled Grace of My Heart, directed by Allison Anders, which was released in cinemas in 1996. She then appeared in several films alongside Robert de Niro, such as On The Run in 1999, City By The Sea in 2002, and show time in 2002. Even though her mother separated from the actor in 1998, Drena de Niro still remained close to her adoptive father. It was in 2003 that the adopted daughter of Robert de Niro gave birth to her son Leandro, who was the fruit of her union with her then-boyfriend, Carlos Rodriguez.
