Kanye West sued for attacking fan in Los Angeles

Rapper Kanye West is being sued for allegedly attacking a fan in 2022, in the city of Los Angeles. Autograph seller Justin Poplawski is suing Kanye for moral damages, emotional distress, beating and assault, which occurred when the seller asked the rapper for an autograph. The salesman's wife also filed a loss of consortium lawsuit against the singer, the woman claiming that she lost her husband's company as a result of the incident with Kanye. The term is used to refer to the deprivation of benefits from a family relationship.

Case investigation

On January 13, 2022, in Los Angeles, autograph seller Justin Poplawski was waiting for rapper singer Kanye West outside a hotel to get an autograph. Afterwards, Kanye allegedly responded to the fan with threats, and soon after the attacks began. According to TMZ sources, Justin was treated in the emergency room after the alleged beating. A Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is investigating the case. At the time, Kanye's defense lawyer, Michael Goldstein, informed Page Six that investigations by the Los Angeles Public Prosecutor's Office – which, at the time, decided that there was no chance of conviction – proved that the “I, the client, did nothing wrong”.

Aggressive behavior

In the early hours of the morning after the alleged attack occurred, Kanye West appears in a video, released by TMZ, shouting at two women, who were possibly with the singer at the time Justin Poplawaki appeared asking for an autograph. In the video, the rapper shouts at women asking for “get away from me”. One of the women tries to calm him down and emphasizes “I am your family.” According to the website TMZ, the woman would be the singer's cousin. Some people who were at the scene said the argument happened shortly after Kanye allegedly attacked Justin. According to the report, the confusion would have happened in the early hours of January 13, 2022, in United States, in Los Angeles.
