New study indicates that practicing physical exercise can reverse aging
– how to remain healthy, health related news, latest symptoms and treatments.
A study released last Friday (12) by researchers Amsterdam UMC, from the Netherlands, suggests a new benefit from regular physical exercise, which is the reversal of the aging process obtained by controlling the production of a lipid that the body accumulates as it ages. The result was published in the scientific journal Nature Aging.
Researchers' statement
The professor at the Genetic Diseases laboratory at Amsterdam UMC and one of those responsible for the study, Riekelt Houtkooper, states that this discovery allows us to better understand the aging process, which in fact helps to look for new ways of intervening in this process.
Another important aspect is that with these new discoveries it is possible to better understand and seek cures for some diseases linked to aging. Riekelt highlights that there is still a lot to study and several mechanisms to understand this entire process.

The study investigation
The team of researchers studied in mice how a certain type of fat, lipids, develop in mice over the years. At least ten different tissues were evaluated in organs such as kidneys, liver and hearts of rodents.
Observation of the process showed that a type of fat bis(monoacylglycero)phosphate is very high in aged rats, which suggested that there was an accumulation of this element during the aging process. With the result, the study began to be carried out on humans, to find out if the same thing happened, which was proven to happen.
The scientists took more samples of these fats and carried out additional tests to find out how they reacted when the elderly person practiced physical activities for about an hour. It was noticed that there was a decrease in this lipid in these volunteers.
Conclusion
Riekelt Houtkooper stated that “These results are an important new step in our understanding of the aging process, but they are certainly not the final answer..” He argues that there is planning to monitor and better understand the process and consequences of the accumulation of bis(monoacylglycero)phosphate during aging.
