Palmeiras takes important measure to hold captain and faces harassment from Saudi club

This Thursday, Palmeiras took an important step to ensure the permanence of its captain, Gustavo Gómez, by registering in the Daily Newsletter (BID) of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) a contract termination and, then, the new contract valid until 2026.

Palmeiras also registered the renewal of the contract with Zé Rafael, which was agreed at the same time. Before this update, the registration in the system still showed the previous contract, due to expire in December 2024. However, the new contract was already in force, guaranteeing the club’s security and strengthening ties with its captain.

Palmeiras insists on the player’s permanence

Despite Al-Nassr’s interest in taking Gómez to the Middle East, Palmeiras made it clear that it does not intend to open negotiations in this regard. The club is determined to keep the player and has the new contract as support. People linked to the Saudi team, however, suggest that they will still try to convince the athlete to transfer.

The captain’s contractual renewal is a significant step for Palmeiras, as it demonstrates the player’s commitment to the club and strengthens the team in its quest for titles and success in the football scenario. With the new contract in force, the fans can be encouraged with the continuity of Gustavo Gómez leading the team on the field. It remains to wait for the unfolding of this story and see if Al-Nassr will persist in its attacks or if the captain will remain firm in Verdão.

At Academia de Futebol do Palmeiras, the board and technical staff are firm in their position that the only way for captain Gustavo Gómez to leave the club is if any interested party pays the termination fee provided for in his contract. However, they do not believe this is a viable or desirable possibility at this time.

The Palmeiras nuisance

What has bothered Palmeiras a lot is the way in which the Saudi market has operated in this transfer window. Al-Nassr and other clubs in the Middle East have been directly approaching the players with tempting financial proposals, in an attempt to entice them to transfer. Then, they seek to facilitate the departure of clubs through negotiations, which is seen as an unethical practice by the Palmeiras team.

Club president Leila Pereira has already made it clear on several occasions that she does not intend to negotiate starters during this transfer window. His position remains firm, even in the face of the situation involving Al-Nassr’s interest in Gustavo Gómez. This stance demonstrates Palmeiras’ commitment to keeping its team strong and competitive for future challenges. In addition to Gómez, another Palmeiras defender who has drawn the attention of the market is Luan, who currently occupies the position of immediate reserve. Krasnodar, from Russia, is interested in signing him, and the player welcomes the possibility of a transfer to Europe. However, the board of directors from Palmeiras has not yet officially commented on Luan’s situation, but it is likely that they will adopt a similar stance to the one they are taking in relation to Gustavo Gómez.

The club is focused on maintaining the integrity of the squad and will seek to avoid any type of harassment or negotiation that could weaken the team during the season. As the transfer window progresses, Palmeiras is attentive to all possible moves and prepares to deal with the market’s onslaughts, ensuring that its team remains competitive and ready to seek new achievements in all the competitions it competes in.
