Mateo also said that the pope has already returned to work. After he showed improvement, Pope Francis ate breakfast, read some newspapers and went back to work.

Pope Francis, who is 86 years old, has been complaining of knee pain caused by osteoarthritis, which eventually caused him to use a wheelchair. In July 2021, the pontiff underwent a delicate colon surgery, as he also has chronic nerve problems.

Recently, the pope admitted that fatigue that prevents him from seeing things clearly could lead him to resign as head of the Catholic Church, as did his predecessor, Benedict XVI.

Pope Francis’ agenda for this Thursday (30) was cancelled, the commitments that the pontiff had for the next few days included the celebration of Mass for Palm Sunday, which takes place on April 2.

According to the Vatican, Pope Francis was tested for COVID-19, but the result was negative.
