The Russian government said this Sunday (28) that it will severely punish Western countries that freeze or confiscate their assets, threatening long legal battles in the courts and other austere measures.
The Russian threat comes after the G7, the Group of the most industrialized countries in the world, discussed in a meeting this counterpart to try to stop Russia's advance in the war against Ukraine. The group believes that adopting such measures could force a return of Ukrainian territories currently occupied due to the war.
The Russian threat
Russia has around 300 billion dollars invested in G7 countries, Australia and the European Union. According to Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian government, if there is an asset freeze, retaliation will be carried out in the same way, as there is still a lot of money from companies from these countries in Russia. According to Peskov, his interests will be defended in court.
This Sunday (28) the spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova stated in the Telegram that the country is not for sale and that Russian money must remain intact, that otherwise your country will consider the freezing of your assets in these countries to be theft, causing a severe response.
No return of occupied territories
Maria Zakharova says many in the West understand that Russia will never exchange territories seized from Ukraine for frozen assets. She ends by stating that she would like all countries to understand that there will be no setbacks in the conflict that has lasted more than two years.

Millions blocked abroad
According to the news agency Reuters The United States and some allies are expected to begin freezing Russian assets in their countries starting this week. The estimated value is around 300 million dollars and aims to reduce Russia's momentum in the conflict. A large part of the blocked capital is in European Union and American institutions.
At the moment, the Russians have achieved a lot of territorial advances in Ukraine, due to the scarcity and decrease in sending money and weapons from Western countries to help the Ukrainians. Russia takes advantage of this moment to occupy and advance further into eastern Ukraine.
