Santos celebrates its 111th birthday with a tribute to King Pelé and uniforms inspired by the 1963 campaign
This Friday (14), Santos celebrated its 111 years of existence with a big party. The event was held at the Blue Med Convention Center, in the city of Santos.
The celebration included the launch of the new uniform, tribute to Pelé, concerts and the presence of idols, former players and athletes who work at the club.
idols from the glorious history of Peixe were present at the event. Lima, Abel, Mengálvio, Pepe, Manoel Maria and Edu, worked alongside Pelé, in historical moments of the Santos team, winning important titles and putting the name of the club in the world headlines. In addition to them, former athletes from the team’s recent history were also present at the celebration, such as Madson, Marcelo Passos, Diego Ribas and Aluísio Guerreiro.
From the current squad, some players participated in the event, as is the case of the captain, João Paulo.
“We come to be part of this wonderful party, a great tribute to the club completing another year of history, happy to be participating”, commented the team captain.
Defender Messias also commented on his participation: “For me today it is an indescribable feeling, being on the birthday of this giant of world football with so many idols from our country means a lot to me, knowing that I play for Santos and being close to these stars (eternal idols) transmits energy and experience. If I can exchange two minutes of conversation with them, it will make me feel much better. Everyone here is very happy”, said the defender.
What couldn’t be different at this party was the celebration of King Pelé, who died on December 29, 2022. His son Edinho and his grandchildren, daughter Regina’s children, were also present at the event.

Edinho commented on the tribute paid to his father.
“It’s a mix of emotions because today we celebrate the anniversary of our club, which is practically a second mother for us athletes. At the same time, we still feel the pain of our King’s farewell. He is ours and that of this entire nation here. Being in the lap of all this love, this affection is what helps to endure. It’s like our hymn says: “It’s a pride that not everyone can have”said the king’s son.
The moment of celebration was the launch of the new uniforms for the 2023 season. The shirts pay homage to the historic team of 1963.
