Sega was asked again about the possibility of a Saturn Mini, along the lines of the Mega Drive Mini consoles that it launched some time ago, and once again it said that there is a greater difficulty in creating a miniature version of this console.
Sega president Yukio Sugino told Famitsu that even with the success of the Mega Drive Mini, they can’t present a Saturn Mini so soon because with it the situation is different.
According to Sugino, the Saturn’s performance is much higher than that of the Mega Drive and, therefore, creating a miniature version of it is a tremendous challenge, but he explained that the company is trying to find ways to do this. However, he made it clear that this will take time.
In June 2022, Sega hardware producer Yosuke Okunari said that they had considered a Saturn Mini or Dreamcast Mini, but high component costs caused Sega to scrap the idea.
Sony even launched a mini version of the PlayStation, which was one of the rivals of the Saturn. The device was criticized by some users at the time it came out, as the games did not run as well as in the original video game.
