Taylor Swift is considered by Billboard to be the biggest pop star of 2023

As in 2015 and 2021, Taylor Swift was considered by Billboard magazine to be the biggest pop star of 2023. The position has also been occupied by Mariah Carey, Madonna and Britney Spears.

The previous year, Billboard had already chosen the North American singer as the third biggest pop star of 2022. However, with the release of the album “Midnights, which sold 1.57 million units in the first week, the magazine already previewed that Taylor Swift was “ready to take back the crown in 2023.”

“Swift proved that as powerful as a viral hit can be, it is absolutely nothing compared to a viral tour, a viral catalog, a viral… everything,” declared Billboard editor Andrew Unterberger.

2023 is, as the Billboard editor stated, “the year of Taylor Swift”. In addition to being declared the biggest pop star, the singer was chosen by Time magazine as person of the year.

“As a pop star, she is in rare company alongside Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Madonna; As a songwriter, she has been compared to Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell.”wrote Time editor-in-chief Sam Lansky.

This year, Taylor Swift not only moved the music charts, with more than one song on the “Billboard Hot 100” at the same time, but also cinema. According to Guinness World Records, the tour film “The Eras Tour” broke the world box office record.

In an interview with Time, the singer revealed that this year feels like a “decisive moment” of your career and, “for the first time in my life”, she is ready to “put up with what comes with it.”

“The Eras Tour” is the highest grossing tour in history

According to Guinness World Records, with 151 shows around the world, Taylor Swift's “The Eras Tour” became the first tour to earn more than US$1 billion in revenue.

The tour, which began in 2023 and is expected to end in 2024, grossed US$1.04 billion (about R$5.16 billion), in addition to making Taylor Swift break the record for “Farewell Yellow Brick Road”, by Elton John.

Guinness World Records also highlighted that “The Eras Tour” earned more than the combined tours of Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen in 2023.
