The dengue epidemic reaches its peak this week

Researcher Wanderson Oliveira, former head of the National Health Surveillance Secretariat (SVS) and epidemiologist declared that this week will be the peak, that is, the highest point, of dengue occurrences. In addition to dengue, other diseases are common during this period of the year, such as zika and chikungunya.

This information was provided after carrying out field work to combat the outbreak of aedes aegypti mosquitoes in São Paulo. The case records broken so far will be low compared to the coming days. According to a health professional, historically the peak of dengue fever is in the months of April and May.

We are entering the 16th week of the year, but in the 13th there was already an impressive number of cases, exceeding 2.6 million cases and more than 900 deaths.

Favorable factor for diseases transmitted by insects

For some time now, climate change, such as a period with strong heat waves and scattered rains, has been worsening cases of arboviruses, diseases caused by these insects. According to Wanderson, he has seen this situation in the past, however, this time, the number of cases continues to rise.

The 15-day delay in detecting the case and completing the patient's file is normal, but DataSUS may take 45 days and, even with this long period of time, it may not have accurate and complete data. Therefore, the latest data reported refers to the last few weeks.

The situation is not the same in all states in Brazil, but today, the seasonal peak occurs in the South, Southeast and Center-West. In the North region, the peak probably occurred at the beginning of this year and, in the Northeast region, it will be in mid-May.
