Coach Tite is the ninth Gaucho to play for Flamengo, and could break the “curse” in the second of the Rio championship final. Flamengo has two coaches from Rio Grande do Sul considered the best coaches in the club's history, namely Claudio Coutinho, who won the club's first Brazilian, and Paulo Carpegiani, who won the World Cup in 1981.

Tite breaks ''curse''

Coach Tite arrived at Flamengo in October 2023, with the mission of classifying the Rubro-Negro team for the group stage of the Libertadores, managing to achieve his first goal in Rubro-Negro.

This Sunday (7), the coach can break a “curse” of coaches from Rio Grande do Sul who played for Flamengo without major achievements. Rubro-Negro is close to becoming Rio de Janeiro champions, being able to isolate itself as the club that has won the title most undefeated.

There have been eight coaches from Rio Grande do Sul for Flamengo, see who they are:

Anníbal Candiota: He was coach of Flamengo during the 1922 state championship, but his time at the club was short. There were eight matches, five wins, two draws, and one defeat.

Carlos Froner: Led Rubro-Negro in 2005, for 20 games, winning six, drawing four, and losing 10.

Claudio Coutinho: Considered the best coach in Flamengo's history, he coached the team in 1978, there were 188 games, with a 79.7% success rate. He won Flamengo's first Brazilian title in 1980, winning three Cariocas, three Taça Guanabaras and one Taça Rio.

Mano Menezes: Led Flamengo in 2013, with 22 games. His time at Flamengo included nine wins, six draws, and seven defeats.

Paulo Carpegiani: He was also considered one of the club's best coaches, leading in 1981, the year in which Flamengo was Libertadores Champion and World Champion, in the same year he won the Rio title and three Guanabara cups. There were 156 matches, winning 94 games, drawing 35, and losing 27.

Renato Gaúcho: Led Flamengo in 2021, in 37 games the club won 24, with eight draws and five defeats. Renato led the team to the Libertadores final, but lost to Palmeiras.
