trial against Promes – The criminal trial against Quincy Promes starts on 21 October in the court in Amsterdam. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) accuses the thirty-year-old attacker of Spartak Moscow and fifty-time Orange international of attempted murder.

Promes allegedly stabbed his cousin in the knee with a knife during a family party in July 2020 in Abcoude. The victim suffered serious injuries.

Promes’ case was already on the court’s roll in March, but was then postponed due to illness of one of the participants in the proceedings. In the run-up to the hearing in March, the Public Prosecution Service increased the charge of attempted manslaughter or serious assault to attempted murder.

On 21 October, a so-called director’s session will take place. During that hearing, the investigative wishes of the suspect and his lawyer are usually discussed.

Phone calls Promes were tapped

Promes, who played his last international match at the European Championships last year, has always denied having stabbed his cousin. In March of this year, it became clear that Promes’ phone was tapped by the police. In tapped conversations with his parents and aunt on July 25, 2020, he appears to confess to the stabbing.

The conversations of the former player of Ajax and FC Twente were recorded because he was suspected of drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization.

Promes was playing for Ajax at the time of the incident. At the beginning of last year he moved to Spartak Moscow. He is currently still under contract there. On Sunday, he was two more times accurate. With eleven goals, he is the top scorer in the Russian league.
