United States kicks off the Women’s World Cup against Vietnam

The United States, current world champion, debuted in the current edition of the Women’s World Cup without many problems against the Vietnam team, winning the match 3-0 and parading their football again for the planet ball.

United States imposes itself from the first minute

The US team started the match on top, without giving many chances to breathe for the Vietnamese team, who held on thanks to goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh, who made at least three great saves in the first stage. However, in the 13th minute came the first goal for the United States after Alex Morgan’s back-heel assist for Sophia Smith, who came face-to-face with the goalkeeper and just took it to the back of the net.

After the goal, the United States continued on top of Vietnam, creating good chances and keeping the ball. At 41 minutes, the American Rodman fell in the area and after consulting the VAR, the Moroccan referee Bouchra Karboubi scored the penalty for the USA. Star Alex Morgan went for the ball but ended up bumping into Tran Thi Kim Thanh, who saved the American’s kick.

Already in the last bid of the first stage, the Americans finally extended the scoreboard after Sophia Smith was alone in the penalty area and counted on the goalkeeper’s failure to expand the marker. With the goal, Smith became the second-youngest player to score twice for the US national team at a World Cup, behind only Cat Whitehill, who managed a doublet at the 2003 World Cup.

Americans come back with everything, but end up sinning in the submissions

In the second stage, the Americans came back with everything again. Already in the first move, Ertz launched for the attack, Morgan deflected and Sophia Smith left facing the goalkeeper, but ended up finishing outside, losing the chance of the Hat-Trick. At four, another great missed chance for the USA, this time, Horan received a free kick, but also kicked it out.

At 15, Rapinoe entered the field in place of Alex Morgan, giving even greater gas to the American attack. With the entry into the field, shirt number 15 reached the mark of 200 games with the shirt of the United States. At 25, the best player in the last cup had her first chance, but ended up isolating and losing a chance she doesn’t usually miss.

Already in the last third of time, the American team finally reached the third goal. After a childish error by the Vietnamese defender, Sophia Smith appeared once again, but chose to wear shirt number 10 Horan, which ended in the back of the net.

Quiet victory and quarries ahead

With the 3-0 victory, the United States starts on the right foot on its way to the fifth world championship, but now it is back to one of the classics of women’s football in the world, as it faces the great Dutch team in the next round, on the 26th, at 10 pm (Brasília time). Before that, the Netherlands and Portugal face each other this Sunday (23), at 4:30 am (Brasília time).
