“Blue Beetle” movie adds another big name to the cast

“Blue Beetle”a film from the DC universe, has announced another big name to the cast, Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, who will play the villain Victoria Kord, a character created exclusively for the film, according to the website The Wrap. Role that was being considered for actress Sharon Stone.

The film is DC's first with a Latino protagonist. Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) will play Jaime Reynes, a young man of Mexican descent who finds the scarab that attaches itself to Jaime's body and transforms into a technological suit of armor, allowing the boy to become the hero Blue Beetle. Jaime is the third version of the character and the most current, being used even in animations such as the series “Young Justice”.

The cast will also include Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine, who will play Penny, the main character's romantic partner. Bruna is already in the United States to film the movie. Other names in the cast are: George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guillén and Raoul Max Trujillo. Angel Manuel Soto will direct the film and the script is written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

Bruna Marquezine talked a little about what it was like to join the cast of the film, the actress was trying out for a role in the film “The Flash”. She had reached the final stage, but was not called because of the pandemic. However, the production kept an eye on her and called her to try for another film.

For the “Blue Beetle”, There were three tests, two by video and one in person. In the first two tests, Bruna didn't know which character or film she was doing. She found out as some details about the production were reported on specialized websites. The last test was done with the participation of Xolo Maridueña, to test their interaction, for chemistry reasons, since the characters will be a romantic couple. With the director's approval, she got the role.
