Knowing More About the Companion

On Sunday, we saw a gameplay preview of Avowed. If you want to know more, the Official Xbox Podcast features game director Carrie Patelto talk about everything we can expect from this upcoming fantasy action RPG.

Gameplay and Missions

We saw a lot more of the game that arrives later this year for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and the cloud (it's been on Game Pass since launch). They revealed the region Emerald Stairshowing two approaches to the same mission, the team camp, upgrade system and even an optional third-person point of view.

Emerald Stair Region

Right away, Patel presented the Emerald Stair at night. With a dynamic cycle of day and night, each fantastic biome changes greatly. The city of Fior, for example, is a spectacle at night with the Animancers, who study the science of souls, and their equipment lighting everything with a purple glow.

Getting to know Yatzli

On a mission to help the Animancers, we met Yatzli, described as a “little ball of lightning with a lot of personality.” She arrives with a rather bold and flirtatious conversation, showing Obsidian's engaging style of dialogue and full of choices.

Group Camp

After seeing the player in combat and half fighting with smaller enemies, we saw the group's camp. Patel explained that it's both a narrative and upgrade hub, where you get to know your companions better and hear them interacting with each other.

Equipment Update

At camp, you also upgrade your equipment. With improved weapons and skills, the player defeated enemies much easier later. Obsidian has made a point of visually and aurally reflecting when its attacks are effective.

Creative Solutions

The game offers several options to solve problems. In addition to combat, skills can open paths or even companions can use their skills to help. In one mission, we saw the player adopt a stealthy approach with Ranger skills, passing through enemies without combat.

Cosmetics and Demigods

You can play in first or third person and customize your demigod, who has a visible connection to one of the gods of Eora. This connection influences how other characters react to you.

Avowed Franchise

Obsidian is bringing the universe of Pillars of Eternity to a new level with Avowed. This RPG promises a rich narrative, meaningful choices and a vast, immersive world. If you enjoy a good action RPG, stay tuned! Avowed comes with everything this year!
