Best Games of the month,

At the end of the month, NU.nl discusses the biggest games that have appeared. With this month LEGO Star WarsChrono Cross and Roguebook.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

  • Platform: pc, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch
  • Score: 4 out of 5 stars

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a much more fun game than it ever should have been. It seems like a purely commercial hooker, to sell some discs with the brands LEGO and Star Wars.

But the final product is an extraordinarily comprehensive game with a script that both younger and older gamers will find hilarious.

Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections will have story mode with original arc

The game includes all nine Star Wars movies. At the beginning you choose which trilogy you start with, after which you replay events from the movies level by level.

It is actually one big parody, in which it all runs slightly differently than in the films. For example, a band pops up at random to provide the most exciting moments with music, or Storm Troopers who are in line fall over like dominoes.

Levels are often full of secrets, which you can only get your hands on by playing them several times. By continuing to play you unlock new characters and you need them to reach certain areas in a level.

In between levels, you can also explore large, open locations that are packed with upgrades to make your team even stronger.

All that makes it a game that can continue to fascinate for many dozens of hours: after eighteen hours we had finished the story, after which we had not yet found all the upgrades and characters. However, you have to take the sometimes somewhat simple play style for granted.

LEGO Star Wars never becomes a really deep game, so it mainly offers superficial entertainment. Perfect for playing cooperatively with your child, for example, which can be done with two controllers on the same game console. Or just on your own, if you like Star Wars.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition

  • Platform: pc, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch
  • Score: 4 out of 5 stars

DRAGON BALL Z KAI IS COMING TO HBO MAX

The Japanese Chrono Cross originally appeared in 1999 for the PlayStation, but was initially not sold in Europe. The Radical Dreamers bundled with this game never even appeared outside of home country Japan. Remarkable, considering they’re both sequels to Chrono Trigger, which is still hailed as one of the best role-playing games of all time.

In Chrono Cross you play the young Serge, who finds himself in an alternative world in which he drowned as a child and no one knows him anymore. Gradually, a strange story unfolds that hangs on the earlier Chrono Trigger in unexpected ways.

Where Chrono Trigger was about time travel between different eras, in the future you will discover how two worlds differ from each other due to minimal differences.

The game was already a breath of fresh air within its genre in 1999, which can still be said in 2022. For example, the beginning of the game does not play in a typical fantasy environment, but in a kind of Caribbean.

With the remaster, the game was released for all common game consoles and somewhat inserted into the new. That mainly comes down to improved models of characters, which now look a little slicker.

The downside is that the game does not look very smooth at twenty frames per second.

What is nice is the possibility to speed up the game or make battles run automatically.

As a result, the slowest moments from the original can be understood a little better than before.

The bundled Radical Dreamers originally appeared for the Super Nintendo and is in fact an interactive novella. It is a somewhat crazy, experimental game of which many elements were later reused in Chrono Cross. After about three hours you are through, which makes it at most a nice extra.

roguebook

  • Platform: pc, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch
  • Score: 3 out of 5 stars

With Roguebook you are put in a mysterious book, where by using ink you reveal new parts of the pages and thus get further and further. Meanwhile, you fight all kinds of monsters by playing special cards.

For example, you have cards that give extra armor to arm you against an attack, or cards that cause damage to the enemy.

As you gradually find new cards, your fighting set slowly but surely evolves. That keeps Roguebook fresh, although exploring the game world remains almost unchanged as you progress.

It is mainly the beautiful drawings that keep Roguebook afloat. The game looks like an interactive fairy tale book, which is complimented by a soundtrack that can be placed under a Hans Christian Andersen film.

Diablo IV has an endgame boss that must be defeated to increase the difficulty.

The game previously appeared on other platforms, but was released on Nintendo Switch this month. We are a little less pleased with the new edition:

the game stuttered several times with us, which is not really the case with the PC edition. It makes the game far from unplayable, but is a shame nonetheless.
