Bruno Lage reveals conversation with Luís Castro before taking over at Botafogo

This Wednesday, the 12th, Bruno Lage was introduced as the new coach of the Botafogo. Received by John Textorowner of the club’s SAF in Rio de Janeiro, the Portuguese coach had his presentation made at Nilton Santos, the stage for Fogão matches and the Portuguese’s new home. In his first words representing the team, he revealed a contact with Luis Castro.

“We talked a little. He told me that there is a fantastic group of players, fantastic club staff. We have a very similar past. While Luís was coordinator of Porto, I was the youth coach at Benfica. We crossed paths several times. When he took over Porto’s B team and the A team, I followed the same route”said Lage.

In addition, he made a point of thanking the reception of the fans from Botafogo, who had an incredible party with his arrival in Brazil. “We will do everything, me and my coaching staff, to continue this fantastic season. I have already commanded a glorious one in Portugal and, today, I am commanding a glorious one in Brazil”he said.

With the team leading the Brasileirão, it is evident that Bruno Lage does not arrive in a terrain with the earth devastated. Quite the contrary, Botafogo has been achieving important results and continuing a good start to the competition. Therefore, the Portuguese guaranteed that the transition will be peaceful, while the work will be developed over the months.

Finally, he said that it doesn’t matter to whom the work credits go, for Lage only the achievements form the focus of the club. “Regardless of who may have the merits, the important thing is for Botafogo to be champion at the end of the year. If the merits go to Luís or Bruno, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is for Botafogo to be at the top and for the fans, in the end, to be happy with a title”, he concluded.
