Charles Leclerc is leader in the 2nd free practice at the Monaco Grand Prix

This Friday (24), in the second free practice session of the Monaco GP, Charles Leclerc was the protagonist, clocking 1:11.278, driving the Ferrari to dominate FP2. Mercedes' Hamilton continued in top form after being at the front, but finished second. In third was Fernando Alonso, from the Aston Martin Team. This race, held in Monte Carlo, is the eighth in Formula 1 in the 2024 season.

What happened

In the previous free practice, the team did not place in the top three and Charles Leclerc finished fifth. The team then changed tires to faster ones for this FP2, and led almost the entire session with the driver feeling at home. When he took the lead in FP1, Hamilton had to overtake his teammate George Russell. The British driver was among those who set the pace today, in the second free practice session. The seven-time champion, who fought last season with Mercedes, finally sees something good emerging in Monte Carlo.

In search of victory

Oscar Piastri, from McLaren, who was second in FP1, overtook the Mercedes in the first 15 minutes, but Lewis Hamilton soon got ahead and took the lead from the Australian. Charles Leclerc always aims to achieve better times until his first victory at home. The last Monegasque to achieve victory in Monte Carlo was Louis Chironin 1931, even before the founding of Formula 1.

Spaniard Carlos Sainz was not doing well and Ferrari maintained the lead, even though Hamilton, Alonso, Verstappen and Norris were between the two team cars with 15 minutes to go. Despite everything, the leadership of Leclerc could not be threatened and the drivers resorted to racing simulation. Many people hit the wall and left the track, including the training director, who almost left too early several times.

The third free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix will take place tomorrow (25), at 7:30 am, Brasília time.
