343 Industries has been working since last year with a group of modders called type to restore content that was cut from Halo Combat Evolved.
One of the highlights are multiplayer maps originally developed for the Halo PC port, developed by Gearbox Software and released in 2003.
“Gearbox created a bunch of new textures that weren’t being used,” said Digsite staff member Ludus. “I thought it would be a shame if these textures were never used, so I decided to remix it into an entirely new map that could better utilize these newly discovered bitmaps.”
The demo shown at Macworld in 1999 is also among the content being restored and added to Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Before the first game came out for Xbox, it was being planned to be a Mac exclusive.
“It took some work to get it working at MCC. We set it up as a sandbox to play, explore, and repurpose for your own mods,” Digsite said.
