Fernando Diniz is denounced by the STJD for aggression against arbitration

Coach Fernando Diniz was denounced by Fluminense’s Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) Attorney’s Office for his expulsion on May 20, in the 1-0 defeat by Botafogo at Estádio Nilton Santos.

After the end of the game, the referee, Braulio da Silva Machado, made a report that was published in the game’s summary, saying that after having received a yellow card as a warning, Diniz persisted in protesting aggressively against the arbitration’s decisions, saying the following words aloud: “You shouldn’t be refereeing in Fluminense games, we always lose with you. You always harm us, you have no criteria. Against Flamengo, on Tuesday, they gave 11 more minutes.” Right after being expelled, the coach still continued to protest loudly and wildly, and only after that, he left the outskirts of the field of play.

Diniz was denounced based on paragraph 1 of article 243-F of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), which deals with “offending someone and their honor, for a fact directly related to sport”, this infraction provides for a fine of up to 100,000 reais and a suspension of one to six matches. However, in the same paragraph it is also mentioned that “if the action is practiced against the referees, assistants or other members of the refereeing team, the minimum penalty will be suspension for four consecutive matches”. The coach has already served a suspension match, as he was suspended in the game following the incident, which was against Corinthians at Neo Química Arena.

The Superior Court of Sports Justice has already scheduled the trial for next Monday (17), at the court’s headquarters in downtown Rio de Janeiro, at Arena Corinthians, at 12:00 pm (Brasília time).

Fluminense faces Flamengo at 4 pm next Sunday (16), at Maracanã, for the 15th round of the Brasileirão. It will be a direct battle for the G-4 in the elite national league. If they win, Tricolor das Laranjeiras surpasses the rival in the table and takes the vice-leadership.
