Filipe Toledo suffers serious injury during competition and is eliminated by Jadson André

One of the highlights of the world surfing elite, Filipe Toledo, suffered an injury during the WSL world circuit in Saquarema. The incident occurred during the round of 16 of the competition, causing an unexpected defeat for the newly crowned 2022 world champion Jadson André.

The Brazilian, also known as Filipinho, was immediately referred to the medical field after the injury. Despite the scare, the tests carried out this Friday, 2023, did not indicate any seriousness in the injury to the right knee. Eliminated from the Rio Pro, Filipinho lost to fellow Brazilian Jadson André in a fierce competition last Friday. Jadson André won with a score of 11.07 to Toledo’s 10.40.

According to reports, after the defeat, Filipinho left the water loaded and went straight to medical attention. He was later able to walk with the aid of crutches. Jadson André, who accompanied Filipinho during the first aid, believes that the injury will not be an obstacle for the remainder of Filipinho’s season.

While Filipinho dealt with his injury, Jadson André had an excellent surfing day. Known for being the second best Brazilian surfer in the Challenger ranking, a secondary division of the WSL, Jadson was called at the last minute to fill Kelly Slater’s vacancy in this championship. Thus, his victory over Toledo was a big surprise and has everything to leverage his surfing career.

The Saquarema stage is the eighth on the WSL world list, with only three locations left to finish the 2023 season. The leader Griffin Colapinto is followed by Filipe Toledo, winner of the last stage in El Salvador and João Chianca known as Chumbinho, brother of the former -bbb Lucas Chumbo, big wave surfer. The Brazilian surf stage ends next Saturday, July 1st.
