Fluminense officially signs the signing of left-back Diogo Barbosa
Fluminense made an official announcement confirming the signing of Diogo Barbosa, from Grêmio. The experienced left-back, aged 30, arrived in Rio de Janeiro last Monday, underwent medical tests and was present at CT Carlos Castilho on Tuesday, where he concluded the signing of his loan contract until December.
“My expectations are very high, I’m very happy. I was anxious for the deal to be finalized soon, I asked to introduce myself before the window opened so I could start working, training with the group. I’m happy, excited about this opportunity, I hope that we can conquer great things”, celebrated the winger in an interview given to the club’s official website.
Diogo Barbosa was hired by Fluminense to fill a gap in the tricolor squad, due to Jorge’s knee injury and Marcelo’s calf pain. He arrives at the Carioca club after passing through Grêmio, where he has played since the beginning of 2020, coming from Palmeiras. During his time in Porto Alegre, the left-back played 106 games, scoring two goals and providing nine assists. This signing represents the return of Diogo Barbosa to football in Rio, after having defended Botafogo in 2016.

Regarding the player’s contract, until December the teams will share his salary equally. However, the agreement provides that in 2024 he will definitely remain at Fluminense, as his contract with Grêmio will be terminated. However, to achieve this permanence, it will be necessary to renegotiate their salaries and reduce their remuneration.
Earlier this year, Fluminense were looking for a left-back in the market and considered both Diogo Barbosa and Felipe Jonatan, from Santos, at the request of coach Fernando Diniz. However, the club opted to hire Jorge, who offered more favorable conditions, coming on a free loan from Palmeiras and with a split salary.
The next transfer window in Brazilian football will open on July 3rd. Only from that date, Diogo Barbosa will be able to play for Fluminense. His last match was on June 4, when he came on in the second half and assisted.
