Grêmio beats Athletico-PR in a game for the Brazilian Championship

On Tuesday night (17), Grêmio hosted Athletico-PR at home, at Arena do Grêmio, as their opponents, who were defeated 2-0 with goals from Cristaldo and Soteldo. The club from Rio Grande do Sul kept the game practically all to itself, giving little space to its opponent.

First time

The first 45 minutes were pure tension inside the stadium. With a goal from Grêmio in the 19th minute, Athletico felt the need to maintain greater pressure on the club from Rio Grande do Sul. Even with the score at 1-0, Athletico was not intimidated and tried several shots, but none of them were successful. Grêmio, after Cristaldo's goal, still played with the expectation of increasing the score in the first half, but did not obtain a positive result either.

Second time

In the second stage of the match, Grêmio started attacking and, six minutes into the second half, Soteldo received the ball inside the area and scored the second for Tricolor Gaúcho. Even with two goals ahead, Grêmio remained firm in the attack in search of more goals. Athletico also made some shots, but did not score any goals. With the result 2-0, the home team beat the club from Paraná.

Even with the lower ball percentage, from 48% to 52% for Furacão, Grêmio had more ball exits in the match. Furthermore, the game featured four yellow cards, three of which were given to players from the visiting club. In terms of passing, Grêmio had 80% pass accuracy, almost equal to Athletico, which had 79% accuracy.
Even with the victory, Grêmio is still below Athletico-PR in the Brazilian Championship table, with the teams in sixth and seventh place, each with three points.
