“Kung Fu Panda 4” surprises and reaches new mark at the box office

One of the biggest animation franchises of the century, Kung Fu Panda is still very successful and continues to bring millions of people to movie theaters around the world. In theaters, “Kung Fu Panda 4” surpassed the US$ 260 million mark raised, almost R$ 1.3 billion.

Even with the 43% drop, the animation remained among the three biggest grossers of the last weekend in the United States, behind “Ghostbusters: Ice Apocalypse” and “Dune: Part 2”, adding US$ 16.7 million to its total. . In China and Brazil, it debuted in first place with revenues of US$26.7 million and US$2.35 million (approximately R$11.73 million) this weekend.

The film has already grossed around US$133.2 million and US$134.9 million, in the US and international markets, respectively, totaling US$268.1 million worldwide.

Public and critical evaluation

With the lowest budget among the four films (US$85 million), the new sequel to the film has been receiving praise, receiving approval from 72% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving an A- rating from viewers on the CinemaScore website. Despite the good achievements, the film has also received criticism for the development of the story and the title of “worst film in the franchise”.

Regardless of the result, “Kung Fu Panda 4” is meeting the expectations of Dreamworks, the studio that produced the animation, and is yet another success. The new sequence is already the second highest grossing film of 2024, behind only “Dune: Part 2”, which has already grossed more than US$574.3 million.

Synopsis

After facing three dangerous journeys, risking his life to defeat the most fearsome villains, Po (Jack Black), the Great Dragon Warrior, is surprisingly chosen to take on the role of Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace.
