São Paulo triumphs over Vitória in the fifth round of the Brasileirão

In a game valid for the fifth round of the national competition, Vitória and São Paulo played a game of goals and a lot of intensity, however the Bahian team continues without achieving a good result in the championship. Barradão received an audience of 25,739 Leão and Tricolor fans.

The first half of the game started off slow and full of fouls and cards in Salvador. After just 5 minutes, Wagner Leonardo, Leão's defender, was expelled from the game after elbowing the Tricolor striker, Calleri. At first the move went unnoticed by referee Ramon Abatti Abel, who had not even booked the player. However, the move was reviewed by the video referee and recommended review to the main judge.

Vitória was better than the São Paulo team in the first five minutes, but the expulsion caused the match to completely change its characteristics. The Tricolor took possession of the ball in the match and created the main scoring chances, including hitting the post with a shot from full-back Igor Vinicius.

Until, at 45 minutes, the ball falls to Igor on the right and the full-back makes a beautiful cross for Luciano to head past goalkeeper Lucas Arcanjo. The goal brought the necessary tranquility for São Paulo to manage the eight minutes of added time given by the referee, in addition to enabling a much more technical second half within the confrontation.

However, the unexpected scenario changed the script of the duel at Barradão. Coach Léo Condé made two substitutions and the Salvador team returned with a different attitude for the second stage. In the seventh minute, from a corner kick by midfielder Matheusinho, Willian Oliveira headed the ball past goalkeeper Rafael, tying the duel between Bahians and São Paulo. Grandma Vitória's fans sang throughout the match even though they lost the game, and after the goal the delirium was total and the noise became deafening.

It's a shame the Rubro-Negra party didn't last long. Due to their merits, São Paulo scored their second goal 3 minutes later, breaking the tie. Nestor gave a great pass to Michel Araújo, who made a low cross to Luciano, who was top scorer at Barradão. With the two goals scored that afternoon, the striker became Tricolor's top scorer in 2024, surpassing his offensive partner, Calleri.

The game was controlled by São Paulo and Zubeldia's men even increased the score. Erick took a corner, Arboleda deflected it at the first post and, sharing with the defender, Calleri almost scored, however, the ball fell to Ferraresi, who had a great dribble and shot with precision to give the game's final numbers. With the 3×1 achieved, São Paulo continues its 7-year unbeaten run against Vitória.
