Shakira says he is not guilty of tax fraud – Shakira has responded through her lawyer to the tax fraud case that has been started in Spain against the singer. The artist would owe the Spanish tax authorities 14.5 million euros. She says that she just paid the tax, but then to the American tax authorities, reports TMZ Friday.

Shakira would have to pay the 14.5 million euros on her income in the period from 2012 to 2014. The Spanish tax authorities say they are obliged to pay this if she has spent 183 or more days in the country.

But theLoca singer wasn’t in Spain for that many days, she claims. In the period in question, she paid more than 10 million dollars (9.6 million euros) in tax to the American tax authorities, because she lived there at the time.
She would also have received an assessment from the Spanish tax authorities for the year 2011. Then she was only sixty days in Spain, claims the singer. Only in 2015 does she say she lived in Spain most of the year.
The Spanish judge announced in September that the artist will soon have to appear.
Shakira says she has evidence
Shakira speaks of a smear campaign and says that her right to privacy has been violated with this case. The singer says she has evidence that she was not in Spain much, which would exempt her from paying taxes.
In July, the singer received a settlement proposal for an unknown amount, but she refused. If Shakira is indeed found guilty, she could face an eight-year prison sentence. Justice is also demanding a fine of more than 23 million euros.
Shakira is originally from Colombia, but moved to Spain because of her ex-partner Gerard Piqué. The footballer played for FC Barcelona and the two lived together in the Spanish city with their two children. The couple broke up last summer.
