Shakira talks about divorce for the first time – Shakira has discussed her divorce from footballer Gerard Piqué for the first time in an interview. The singer finds it extremely difficult to talk about it, she says in the October issue of ELLE.

“I stayed quiet and just tried to process it all,” says 45-year-old Shakira. “It’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still working on it and because I’m in the spotlight. Our divorce is not like an ordinary divorce. And so it’s not only difficult for me, but also for my children. Incredibly difficult.”

Shakira finds the enormous media attention for her private life complicated. She says she’s trying to keep her seven- and nine-year-old sons as far away from them as possible.

“I try to protect them, that’s my main mission. But then they hear things at school from their friends or come across unpleasant messages on the internet. That affects them.” (Shakira talks about divorce for the first time)

At the beginning of June, Shakira and Piqué announced that they are divorcing after a relationship of more than eleven years. The pair then asked in a short statement “for the sake of the well-being of the children” to respect their privacy.
