Brazilian club refuses millionaire proposal for top scorer of the Brasileirão, but for how much longer?

After losing the Portuguese coach Luís Castro to Al-Nassr, Botafogo is dealing with constant attacks from the Saudi Arabia Investment Fund, which controls the four biggest clubs in the country (Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr). This time the organization is keeping an eye on Glorioso’s star and top scorer in the Brasileirão, Tiquinho Soares.

The proposal made by the group of investors amounted to about 7 million euros, about R$ 33 million to count on the Brazilian, but Botafogo refused. This is the second appearance of the Saudis in polls for the striker, in the first proposal made two weeks ago, the group offered the team from Rio de Janeiro about R$ 24 million, which were also rejected. Tiquinho Soares has a termination fine in the amount of R$ 120.4 million, something favorable to the club from Rio, since the high value of the fine allows the team to play hard for possible attacks by other clubs and its permanence is more favorable.

Glorioso’s director of football, André Mazzuco, admitted the interest of clubs in Tiquinho, but reinforced the permanence of important players.

“It is not our intention to trade athletes. We are focused on this point, the athletes too. It’s a very good environment, the athlete feels part of it. It’s not just any situation that I would. It is not our intention to lose that solidity that is allowing us to fight like we are fighting on top”, said Mazzuco.

Tiquinho has been playing for Botafogo since last year and is currently the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship, with 10 goals in 13 games played in the league. In all, he has already added 33 games in the year, with 21 goals and eight assists.

Botafogo comes from a 2-0 victory this past Wednesday (13th) over Patronato, from Argentina. The match was the first dispute of the Copa Sudamericana playoffs. Now, Glorioso returns to Brasileirão to face Bragantino on Saturday (15) and seek to increase the distance in the table. The club has 33 points, ten more than vice-leader Flamengo.
