Champions League semi-finals
Real Madrid and Manchester City have qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday evening. In it, Real Madrid takes on Chelsea, Manchester City has to deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
With Georginio Wijnaldum in the starting line-up, Liverpool had enough opportunities against Real Madrid to make up for the deficit (1-3) in the away game. However, they were not used. Partly because of this, it remained 0-0 in the fascinating confrontation at Anfield.
Real mainly defended, and played more on possession than on offense. Once the formation of trainer Zinedine Zidane was close to a goal, but Karim Benzema hit the post next to goalkeeper Alisson. The second half gave a similar picture. Liverpool increased the pressure, with Diogo Jota the fourth forward. Real went back further and further, but did not panic or make unnecessary mistakes.
City for the first time in the last four
Pep Guardiola reached the last four in the Champions League with Manchester City for the first time. The English club also won against Borussia Dortmund in Germany. The return ended in 1-2, after 2-1 last week in Manchester. As a result, Guardiola, in his fifth season with City, can still win four main prizes. His team is almost champion and also has a chance to win the FA Cup and League Cup.
Erling Haaland, this season at Borussia good for ten hits in the Champions League, was kept well out of the game by City. It was Jude Bellingham who opened the score for the home team after fifteen minutes. The English teenager, who played for Birmingham City in his home country, got the ball in front of his feet with a bit of luck and took a nice shot: 1-0.
The second half initially showed the same game image. Due to a strange action by Emre Can, City was cheap to equalize. He headed the ball against his outstretched arm, after which Mahrez managed to use the inevitable penalty kick: 1-1. Phil Foden finished the diptych fifteen minutes before the end with a flaming shot in the short corner: 1-2.
