Diego Souza is back at Sport de Recife and the fans can’t wait any longer!

Idol of Sport de Recife, Diego Souza made his return to Ilha do Retiro. The arrangement was made last Sunday (16) and its arrival in the northeast is scheduled for next Friday (21). Until the day he lands at the local airport, the fans will have to hold back the anxiety of seeing the 38-year-old athlete wearing, once again, the red-black shirt. Meanwhile, the internet has been a refuge for the most anxious.

On Twitter, Sport fans nicknamed Diego Souza “Painho” It is “father”, and others who ask “blessing” for the athlete. The acronym DS87, his trademark at the club, was well remembered due to the number 87 used by the veteran in honor of the unprecedented title of the 1987 Brazilian Championship of Leão do Norte.

In addition to being called “father”, Diego Souza is already being appointed, by the fans, as the new attack partner of Vagner Love, 39 years old – current top scorer of Série B with nine goals – to form a duo of “old people”.

The two players are back together after 23 years, when they were part of the Palmeiras squad in 2009.

Diego Souza was at Grêmio for four seasons, and went through several clubs in Brazil, but carries an idolatry in Sport that comes from a long time ago. The first time the veteran played for Leão do Norte was in 2014, on loan from Metalist, from Ukraine, helping the northeastern club to make its best campaign in the era of consecutive points of the Brazilian Championship, placing sixth.

After that period at Sport, the attacking midfielder went to Fluminense, but he was never missed by the Rio de Janeiro club and ended up returning to Ilha do Retiro after nine games. He remained in Recife until 2018, when he transferred to São Paulo. In all, Diego Souza participated in 173 matches, scoring 57 goals with the red-black shirt.
