Lula is invited by Japanese prime minister to G7 summit

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, invited President Luíz Inácio Lula da Silva to participate in the next G7 summit this last Thursday (6). The invitation took place through a call between the two leaders.

The G7 summit is the meeting of leaders of the most industrialized countries, namely: France, Japan, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy and Canada. Lula’s possible participation, if the invitation is accepted, does not mean Brazil’s entry into the G7, Brazilian participation would be as a guest.

According to the Japanese embassy in Brazil, Kishida’s invitation was due to the prime minister’s interest in discussing important issues for the international community. And even as a guest, Kishida considers that Lula’s participation can be important and active.

The next summit takes place May 19-21 in Hiroshima, Japan.

In a statement, Fumio Kishida reported that among the main subjects are the War in Ukraine, climate change and global economy. Furthermore, he stated:

“The G7 presidency year will also serve as a valuable opportunity for the next generation and beyond, young people and children, to turn their attention to global issues and take action. We offer many opportunities to deepen exchanges, learn together and experience the summit for those who will be at the forefront of Japan and the world of tomorrow.”

Since he was re-elected, Lula has been traveling and meeting with world leaders, with the aim of increasing Brazil’s international relations.

In January, Lula went to Buenos Aires to re-establish relations between Brazil and Argentina. On the occasion, Lula apologized to the current president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, for the “rudeness” made by former president Jair Bolsonaro.

In February, Lula traveled to the United States to have a meeting with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, where they talked about defending democracy and combating climate change.
