Record deforestation in the Amazon worries experts

The deforestation of amazon, which has been a very prominent topic in the current government, broke yet another negative record. It was the second largest since the creation of the alert system of the stopof National Institute for Space Research (Inpe)organ of Ministry of Science and Technologyin 2016.

At Amazon rainforest 844 km² were lost to deforestation in the same period, and in March alone, the biome recorded 356 km² of deforestation.

The data come at a time when the president’s government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)says his goal is to eliminate deforestation as well as combat its main foci, such as illegal mining, which has been a big thorn in the side of the government, this was even one of Lula’s main topics during the electoral period, due to strong criticism during Bolsonaro’s previous government, for trying to weaken environmental bodies and trying to hide data on deforestation.

One of the main attitudes of the current government to try to reverse the situation was the resumption of Amazon Fundwhich due to attitudes of Jair Bolsonarohad been deactivated in the last government, the program basically receives donations from European countries as a way to help stop deforestation.

Since the increasing numbers of devastation, are driven in both biomes by the highs, mainly during the month of February, since March, which usually closes the period of heavy rains, has historically lower numbers, but in a government whose environmentalist base and very strong numbers have been causing concern.
