Met Gala 2024 catalog preview revealed with “Sleeping Beauties” theme

Inspired this year by Andrew Bolton, the book reveals stories with the intention of mixing style and science of Costume Institute. The Met Gala comes with some new features for the spring 2024 collection. Called the “Oscar of fashion”, the exhibition is a preview of what the museology balls will be like.

The event will have the same name as the book: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. The closer the event gets, the more speculation appears. The collection made by Jun Takahashi, made terrarium dresses, a true mix between book and Paris catwalks, with live plants and fluttering butterflies standing out.

The book became a fundamental piece, as photographer Nick Knight revealed that the objects also served as an approach to the design, both of the essay and the book. The museum said that the ABC Daily Slab Mono from the Dynamoused typewriters as a form of font for the Dyakova Ateliera kind of vintage, mixing nature and time, contemplating the book and the exhibition.

Sleeping Beauties

“Sleeping Beauties” in free translation, this year's catalog promises to deliver something unprecedented, according to Andrew Bolton, creator of the pieces. He explains that he called scientists, consultants and his entire team to create clothes that are not a little out of the ordinary, creating a parallel world, with a human sense in clothing, but with the touches of nature: earth, air and water. Much more than seeing, the smell is always present, as well as touch and sound.

Some departments tend to have more difficulties than others, but costume design had great challenges this time.

The museum tends to have objects of public trust, but when a museum collection communicates with the item of clothing relationship, things are different. An example of this is a vase being just a vase, but the clothes complement each other, making them lively.

The museum's ethics is to conserve and not let the pieces be used again. That’s why the title of the essay is “Do Not Touch” translating: “don’t touch”. Then, just like the fold-out pages, the butterfly wings open like the petals of a flower. Everything the catalog promised was fulfilled, maintaining the flourishing of the exhibition after the dresses had fallen asleep.

Detailed explanation of the event

The Met Gala has been organized by Anna Wintour since 1995, an event held annually for the opening of the brand and much loved by fashion, with the aim of raising funds for the Costume Institute of Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York, where the event takes place and normally on the first Monday of May. Except in 2021, which occurred in September due to the Covid-19 pandemic. More than eight figures have already been raised.

No one knows exactly what happens, everything is a mystery. What they really know is that guests stay in nearby hotels and there is a policy to be followed and one of them is not to use smartphones. Just exclusive photos during the event coverage, no social media.
