Palmeiras beats Grêmio and takes the lead in the Brasileirão

This Wednesday (10) Palmeiras faced Grêmio at home. The team that already has 10 consecutive victories at Allianz, continued with the invincibility in the arena against the Porto Alegre team. This time, Verdão won 4-1, leading the team to 13 points and guaranteeing leadership in the Brazilian Championship.

The first half of the Palmeirenses was of several finalizations, not lacking opportunities to score the goal, with 65% of ball possession. The team that led the match suffered only three fouls in the first moment. Zé Rafael and Veiga, great candidates for the game’s star player, also took a chance on kicks, which went wide.

The game changed when Mayke made the pass to Veiga, who headed it in and opened the scoring for Palmeiras, still in the first half. While Grêmio was not in the match, Verdão was collecting submissions. Until Bitello hit and put the ball in the net for Grêmio, tying the match.

The team’s victory was consecrated when Mayke scored the third goal for Palestra. And to end with a golden key, Luan finished with the fourth goal of the team.

In a post game interview Raphael Veiga, the game’s star highlighted: “The main thing for Palmeiras is consistency in the games” and went on to say that all this is the merit of the Portuguese coach and his entire team.

Defender Bruno Alves, from Grêmio, said that they were trying to find the counterattack and that the second goal they conceded, their coach Renato Augusto had already warned that Abel Ferreira would project this move.

Abel said in a press conference that the performance against Grêmio was one of the best of the year for the São Paulo team. Now Palmeiras depends on its rival, Corinthians, to remain in the leadership of the Brasileirão.
