Paris Saint-Germain surprises and signs Real Madrid star free of charge
Paris Saint-Germain announced this Thursday morning (06), the signing of attacking midfielder Marco Asensio, who was at Real Madrid. The 27-year-old Spaniard did not agree to a renewal with the meringues and it was free on the market, costing no transfer value to the coffers of the French.
“It is a privilege to be part of this great club that is PSG”said Asensio, who signed a contract until the end of the European season in 2026.
The recent hiring of coach Luis Enrique to take over PSG may have been one of the main reasons why Asensio accepted the French club’s proposal. The coach and player have worked together in Spain’s cycle in recent years, vying for world Cup, in Qatar. Asensio was one of Luis Enrique’s main players, assuming the number 10 shirt for the Spanish national team in the main national team tournament.
So far, Asensio is PSG’s third reinforcement this season, which had already announced the signing of Uruguayan Ugarte, midfielder who was in the Sportingand the Slovak defender Skrinar, formerinternational.

Asensio emerged as a huge promise of Spanish football playing for Mallorca. In the winter window in 2015 he was traded to Real Madrid, but remained on loan until the end of the season. After another loan, to Espanyol, Asensio returned to whites and scored on his debut, in the final of the UEFA Super Cup. He had ups and downs, suffered from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and lost the space he had conquered. Despite the problems, he was part of Real’s winning years.
For the merengue club, in addition to 258 games and 61 goals scored, Asensio won 17 titles, among the main ones: three champions leaguefour Club World Cup and three editions of Laliga. The attacking midfielder stands out in the Spanish national team, won a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games, in addition to playing in the 2018 and 2022 World Cup.
