Instagram makes followers of private accounts in Russia and Ukraine invisible
Instagram hides information about followers of people with private accounts in Ukraine and Russia. “This means that users who follow private accounts of people in Ukraine and Russia will no longer be able to see who is following them or who they are following,” Instagram parent company Meta reported .
The accounts in question will no longer be shown in other people’s watch lists. They also no longer appear in the lists of mutual friends.
The measures were taken because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Instagram now also writes to label messages from Russian state media, so that it is clear where the reporting comes from. In addition, messages from the state media are made less visible in the app.
For example, the posts are not recommended in the Discover tab of the app or in Reels.

Facebook, Instagram’s sister company, has been blocked by the Russian government because of measures the company took against state media.
Access to Russian media was also restricted on Facebook. At the moment Instagram is still active in Russia.
