Director Maïwenn considered the wardrobe a central aspect to represent the modernity of Madame du Barry, who became the monarch’s lover, was elevated to the nobility and became one of the main patrons of the time.

For this, Maïwenn carried out research that led her to creations by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel haute couture. In addition to providing the looks, the maison also involved Chanel Parfums-Beauté, maison d’art Paloma, Maison Lemarié and Maison Michel.

The brands helped with costume accessories, such as feathers, flowers and hats, in addition to the actors’ makeup.

Also called Madame du Barry, she became a great patron of the time, supporting various works of art, fashion and culture. She became close to several artists and intellectuals, including the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltairde, with whom she was close friends.

Du Barry was born on August 19, 1743. A century separates her from Coco Chanel, founder of the maison that helped compose the looks in the film. The French stylist and businesswoman came into the world on the same August 19th and was also known for supporting artists and intellectuals of the 20th century.
