Copa do Brasil 2023: with Fla x Flu, draw defines clashes for the round of 16

In a draw held this Tuesday afternoon (2), the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) defined the matches for the 2023 Copa do Brasil Round of 16. The ceremony, held at the new headquarters of the entity, in Rio de Janeiro , had the illustrious presence of Galvão Bueno, who was honored at the event.

Of the 16 teams qualified for this stage, 15 are in Serie A of the Brazilian Championship this season and only Sport, which did not get access last year, is outside the elite group of national football. The draw took place without obstacles – clubs from the same state could cross normally.

The games will take place between May 17th and 31st, on dates, times and locations to be confirmed according to the teams’ calendars. The ranking for the following phases will be defined in a new draw, with the teams already defined.

Among the most anticipated duels is Fla x Flu, a traditional carioca classic. In recent retrospect, the tricolor has been getting the better of the red-negro: there were seven wins in the last ten matches, including the title of the Carioca Championship of the current season.

In addition to the Rio classic, another clash that carries a lot of history is Grêmio x Cruzeiro. The confrontation brings together, in addition to the rivalry between the clubs from RS and MG, the two biggest champions of the competition, with five and six titles each, respectively.

This year, the CBF will give the biggest prize in the history of the Copa do Brasil: R$ 420 million will be distributed, counting from the 1st phase to the final. For the champion, the award will be R$ 70 million and the runner-up will receive R$ 30 million.
