Van Bommel wants to attack with Wolfsburg
Mark van Bommel made it clear during his presentation as manager of VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday that he is pursuing an attacking style of play. The former PSV coach also made it clear that he is charmed by Mohamed Ihattaren.
‘I want to play attractive football and have an idea how I want to do that. But that also depends on the qualities of the players,” Van Bommel said during his presentation at the Volkswagen Arena.

“It would be nice if people said: that’s a team of Van Bommel. The best thing to see is when players understand how you want to play. Otherwise you have to do something else.”
Van Bommel signed a two-season contract with Wolfsburg at the beginning of this month, where Kevin Hofland will be his assistant. ‘Die Wölfe’ finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season and therefore play in the Champions League.
‘I know Ihattaren very well’
After the press conference, Van Bommel was asked by ESPN about possible interest in Ihattaren, who was in a dispute with coach Roger Schmidt many times last season at PSV. Van Bommel did not deny that he is interested in the young playmaker. (Van Bommel wants to attack with Wolfsburg)
“I know Mo very well. I brought him into psv under-19s as a young boy and took him to the first team. I think he is a really fantastic player, a good guy, who has achieved the top level with me”, says Van Bommel.
‘Of course we’re always associated because I’ve worked with him and he’s played well with me. Wherever I went, we’d always be connected. Do I want to bring him here? We are always interested in good players.”
The Bundesliga season starts for Van Bommel and Wolfsburg on 14 August with a home game against VfL Bochum.
